Bangalore - India by Mujibur Rahman

Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka was built when the king of Vijayanagar gifted Kempagowda, the Yelahanka Prabhu chieftain with a big portion of land. He utilized the huge revenue gained from that land to develop a new town. He encouraged artists, foreign merchants and other artisans to settle in this newly developed town. After Kempegowda, several dynasties and sovereigns came to rule Bangalore. It specially prospered and flourished in the able hands of Tipu Sultan and other rulers from Wodeyar dynasty.

According to legends, Bangalore was earlier known as Benguluru. It derives its name from the tree Benga and from benda kala ooru, which in Kannada language means, the village of boiled beans. Also known as the garden city of India, Bangalore is nicknamed the Silicon city of India for its revolution in the field of IT.

There are many spots of tourist attractions that can be visited within and around Bangalore. All the famous spots are well accessible and are of contemporary, religious or historical interests. One of the major attractions is Vidhan Soudha. This massive building built in 1954 is a classic example of neo-Dravidian style of architecture. The Legislative assembly of the state of Karnataka is situated here. Another famous tourist spot is the Lal bagh. It has been given this name for its world famous blooming red roses that are a delight to see and smell. The amazing thing about these roses is that they bloom in this garden all the year round. This garden also boasts of many rare botanical species. The Republic day show of the garden attracts tourists from all over the world.

The Cubban Park, which is situated at the heart of the city, is another not-to-be-missed tourist attraction. Another famous place is the Bangalore Palace. It was built in 1887 and the grand architecture of this magnificent palace is based on the Tudor style. Many people even claim that it is India's answer to England's Windsor Palace.
